When you think of graphic design, what exactly runs through your mind, well ?
For me, I’ve always thought graphic design was for people who don’t have the mental ability to combat other ‘big professions like doctors, lawyers, etc, and also Photoshop was all that was needed for the profession.
The term encompasses a lot of definitions based on perception, upbringing, interactions with different people, and many other factors that would have influenced our judgment of what Graphic Design is.

The reason for this blog is to give a clear definition of what Graphic design is, keeping in mind that we can not cover all of what is entailed in this creative field in one blog.
First, let us look at what graphic design is.
Graphic design is “the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books.” Its practice involves creative, innovative, and lateral thinking.

Alexandros Clufetos, when asked to elaborate on the graphic design definition, he says “It helps the producer connect with the consumer’’.
Graphic design is planning and creating visual content to communicate ideas and messages.
Now let us move on to ‘what graphic design is not’
Graphic design is not easy and fast.
One of the most detrimental misinterpretations of graphic design is the idea that design is no hard work. Good design takes a lot of research, skill, thinking, exploration, and attention to detail. The process of design is time-consuming and complex. Before, you need to research and ensure your facts are correct, especially when dealing with a client.
Graphic Design is not all about pretty pictures
There are guiding rules and principles around whatever field we find ourselves in, and so also does Design. Studying the laws around design and learning how to apply them is what produces great results. Making things look great and good is only one aspect of design work. Good design/ a pretty picture is the byproduct of intense work done by a professional designer.
Graphic Design is not cheap.
Good, sound, and effective design is not cheap because it is a collective effort that has gone through Close, careful examination or observation before it is even sent out for the first time.
Graphic Design is not just about learning how to use Photoshop and other design tools.
Does having a football at home give you the chance to play on the same level as Messi? This also applies to design.
Software is nothing but a tool, and just like with any tool, the output or final result is not going to be excellent unless you have the appropriate skill, experience, and talent to use it.
Likewise, having Photoshop or any other design software doesn’t give you the skills to create effective designs.
